Dr. Joseph Kauffman: I am from the McVeytown area with most of my father’s relatives being from the Longfellow/Pine Glen area and most of my mother’s relatives being from the Belleville area. I graduated in 1994 from Juniata High School and attended California University of Pennsylvania. I entered Chiropractic School in 1998 at Life University in Marietta, GA and graduated from there in March of 2002. I completed all four parts of the National Boards including the Physical Therapy section. I worked for a few months in Rome, GA as an independent contractor. In February 2003, I began practicing as an Associate Doctor in Pittsburgh, PA. In September 2004, I returned home to the Lewistown area and began working for the doctor who gave me my first adjustment at the age of 16, Dr. Daniel Hummel. In January 2005, I purchased the office from him and have been striving to help as many people as possible. In November 2006, I opened a side office in Belleville to see more patients and draw from a community that is in need of chiropractic care. I married Colette Espigh on April 9, 2005. She is from the Pine Glen area and we actually were in the same Sunday school class together at the age of four. We continue to serve the Lord together in helping as many people as possible and living life according to God’s plan. We try to do as many events as possible in the community to spread the word about how chiropractic can help people. We have done successful health fairs in major companies in the Lewistown area as well as be a part of some major local community days such as Women’s Wellness Day, RiverFest, and Country Memories Day, just to name a few. In April of this year, we had an opportunity to give back to the children of central PA by participating in the annual Kid Connection. We had a booth in which they were able to decorate sugar cookies, which was a huge hit with the children. If you are interested in having us do a health fair at your workplace or a screening at your event, contact us to let us know.
Dr. Daniel W. Hummel, III: I am originally from Clearfield, Pennsylvania, but have lived in Mifflin County for 31 years. I am a graduate of Clearfield Area High School and Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa. Upon graduation from Palmer in 1976, I opened the Hummel Chiropractic Center in Lewistown on November 22nd of that same year. My wife, Sandy, and I have two children—David and Jennifer. In 2005, I sold my practice to Dr. Kauffman and it became the Kauffman Hummel Chiropractic Clinic. It’s always been my belief that the power that made the body heals the body and knowing that Dr. Kauffman and I share a faith in that God-given Power gave me confidence that when the time comes for me to retire, he will continue to provide the same quality of care that patients have come to expect. In the meantime, I now see patients two days per week and am enjoying a slightly “slower pace” as an employee rather than an employer.
Colette Kauffman: I am the Receptionist you will see if you come into our office anytime between 9:00 - 5:00. I previously worked in the Student Aid Office at Penn State University for seven years before working in the office here full time. My parents are Clair and Carolyn Espigh of Lewistown, PA and I grew up in the Pine Glen area. I also graduated from Belleville Mennonite School in 1994. I enjoy being a wife to Joe Kauffman, spending time with family and friends, traveling, playing piano and spoiling our two cats, Kitti and Tony.
Gail Swineford: I started working at this office when it was originally Hummel Chiropractic Center back in the winter of 1977. I continue to work here today as the billing and insurance coordinator. When I am not sitting at the computer dealing with the bills or haggling with the insurance companies, I enjoy spending time at home with my husband, Jim and our shih-tzu, Zoe. I am also a mother to Leslie and Nicole and grandmother to Heather, Chelsea, Zack, and Brenna. So, my time at home is spent reading, crocheting and enjoying time with my family and caring for my close relatives. I am also a new member of the Red Hat Society.
Paula Smith: I started working here in April of 1996. I am the receptionist that you will see if you come in to the office during the evening hours past 5:00pm. I also work part time as the activities coordinator for Brookline Retirement Village. I enjoy listening to Classical music and singing in the church choir. I am married to Gary and together we have raised 3 children who are now parents themselves. We have a total of 4 grandsons. I like to spend time at home reading, cooking, baking and entertaining our two boxers, Joe and Buttons |
